Well, it is high summer in Maine. The tourists are here, the roads are clogged, and it is H O T.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Maine is a tourist destination. Even our license plates say Vacation Land. And August seems to be the busiest month we have. People with families arrive to spend a week in a cottage by a pond or on the ocean. Camps plan canoe trips and bicycle trips. Towns go all out with events. There are blues festivals, clam festivals, blue berry festivals, often all at the same time! County fairs are in full swing, most have midways, and most have animal and produce competitions. It is a busy time for all.<\/p>\n

This year it seems especially busy, perhaps the heat has driven people up the coast. But, it is just plain HOT here, especially as most of us don’t have air conditioning! One rep was up recently, and he said, “My cell phone does not work up here, and there isn’t any air conditioning… how do you do it!”<\/p>\n

Well, it is true there are many places where cell phones don’t work- our house being one of them. But, truthfully, no one remembers a summer where the heat and humidity started in June, and just kept coming. Most summers we carry a coat in the car, as it is usually very cool, if not downright cold! That said, everyone will be remembering the heat with fondness come next January!<\/p>\n

MONDAY- August 6. 2012<\/b><\/p>\n

Weeks take on a life of their own, don’t they? I had my week fairly set out. List some brocades, work on the blog that was neglected last week, etc. BUT, that has now all changed!<\/p>\n

First: for those who wondered about the end of the business trip a couple of weeks ago, you can read about it here in Sewing Notions, Maine Musings.<\/b><\/a><\/p>\n

Second: the most sold colors last week were neutral tans and browns, and orange. And toile season has definitely arrived!<\/p>\n

Third: during August we try to move fabric around in an effort of re-organization. This year we are trying to get all of the things that came in with the Schumacher and Clarence House Fabrics listed. There is a fairly large number to go through. To that end, last week we started listing some of the damask patterns.<\/p>\n

My plan was to finish the damasks, and move on to some of the prints, in an effort to get most of them finished before the new fabrics arrived at the end of the week. But, surprise, surprise… the new fabrics showed up this morning! Nothing like a plethora of treasure!<\/p>\n

For those who are interested in unique fabrics, one pattern, in three colorways, was listed last week. It is truly of the most unique designs we have seen. It has a medieval hunt scene- but is not what one would imagine. It has men on horseback and on foot, hunting in a forest, but not for deer- for bulls!<\/p>\n

MEDIEVAL SPANISH HUNT FABRIC<\/p>\n

There are three colorways of this- platinum silver, peachy beige, and gold. It is being sold by the piece, not the yard. If you need a traditional damask fabric that is heavy enough for upholstery work, and want something unique- this is it.<\/p>\n

For those who want a damask that is a bit more traditional there is a floral in yellow, and a small piece of a blue with cream. They should be listed tomorrow.<\/p>\n

THURSDAY- Augst 9, 1012<\/b><\/p>\n

Busy, busy days for all. I finally got the last of the large pieces of damask listed. It is a beautiful Italian fabric, with a classic pattern. There are three pieces available.<\/p>\n

REVERSIBLE ITALIAN DAMASK FABRIC<\/p>\n

I started to photograph the new seashell fabrics, but only got one done, before the sun went around the corner of the house. But, the first of these ocean prints is listed.<\/p>\n

It should give some of you a laugh.. it is so reminiscent of the ’70’s!<\/p>\n

EMBROIDERED LOBSTER FABRIC<\/p>\n

The new lobster fabric has small embroidered lobsters
\non a mini-stripe background of Oxford blue and white.
\nThe stripes are woven, not printed.
\nRemember all the skirts and pants in the ’70’s with embroidered whales, etc?
\nWell, here you go!<\/p>\n
