Whimsical home decorating fabrics bring a smile to one’s face, and can add charm to a room. At Brick House Fabrics our focus is novelty fabrics, so we tend to see a lot of whimsical patterns! We thought it would be fun to look at some of the ones we have had in the past.<\/p>\n

PAINT BRUSH FABRIC<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

This monkey fabric, from years ago, was unique!
\nMonkeys, dressed in plus fours, with argyle socks and sweaters,
\nare shown playing golf, in the tropics.
\nThe building, reminiscent of the British colonies, is a perfect touch.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

This elephant giraffe fabric was from over ten years ago!
\nI think it was a P.Kaufmann.
\nAt the time, Kaufmann was running quite a few patterns with exotic animals.
\nThe elephant makes one smile!<\/p>\n

It shows a wall, papered in stripes, with
\nsmall pictures hanging from cords and tassels.
\nNote, the shadowing to the right and below the pictures and cords,
\nwhich gives depth to the pattern.<\/p>\n

An exotic fabric, by Waverly, always made us laugh,
\nespecially as we are in Maine!
\nAt first one sees animals, mostly from Africa,
\nalong with\u00a0 a few surprises- a kangaroo, and-
\na moose!<\/p>\n

The pyramids by the camel added more humor!<\/p>\n

Everyone smiled at this alligator fabric<\/p>\n

The Schumacher Ming Dragon is a block print from the 1920’s.
\nNow called Chiang Mai Dragon,
\nit has a dragon in a garden with hanging\u00a0 lanterns.<\/p>\n

This Schumacher Chinoiserie\u00a0 has a classic look-
\nbut\u00a0 when one really looks at the pattern,
\none sees that a little girl is being confronted by a stern woman…<\/p>\n

The\u00a0 girl is holding two fish in her left hand,
\nobviously taken from the\u00a0 small container pond to the left.<\/p>\n

She has a very guilty look,
\nand one realizes she is hiding one behind her back!<\/p>\n

\u00a0Clarence House did this Chinoiserie
\nwith\u00a0 Thailand warriors and a variety of different animals.<\/p>\n

Slowly one becomes aware that\u00a0 the fantastic animals are not\u00a0 the\u00a0 elephants, deer, and other mammals.<\/p>\n

The ground is formed of animals!
\nFantastic indeed!<\/p>\n

Clarence House did this elephant fabric,
\nwhich is filled with elephants, butterflies, and flowers.<\/p>\n

He did a View of New York as well as the View of Paris.<\/p>\n

Sometimes whimsy is about coloring, as much as pattern.<\/p>\n

This older pattern\u00a0 has both!<\/p>\n

A tropical Tree of Life pattern, it has Birds of Paradise and the cutest cockatoo!
\nThe pineapple and sunflower are added bonuses!!!
\nAnd the pink background adds to the fun!<\/p>\n

What is whimsical in one color,
\nmay not be in another!<\/p>\n

\nthe brighter version veers toward bizarre!<\/p>\n

The pink owl fabric we called the Girly Girl Owl Fabric,
\nthe bright one we called the Hippie Owls!<\/p>\n

The Alice Fabric was an instant hit-
\nwe were sorry when it was discontinued.<\/p>\n
