We have two new fabrics listed.<\/p>\n

Both jungle fabrics,
\nthey could not be more different!<\/p>\n

The first is an interesting fabric with
\ntoucans and parrot parakeets or budgies.<\/p>\n

Our other new fabric is a bold
\njungle tiger fabric.<\/p>\n

I think these two fabrics are interesting from an interior design\u00a0 and decorating point of view.\u00a0 They offer some things to consider when choosing a fabric for use in your own environment.<\/p>\n

One of the things people complain about is how large the patterns and scale of home decorating fabrics has become.\u00a0 As people built houses with Great Rooms,and furniture got bigger, the fabric companies kept pace, by making the scale of fabrics and the repeats bigger and bigger.<\/p>\n

But, there are a few issues with this. First, with very large repeats, there is a lot of waste for many projects. It is one thing if one is using the fabric in a random way. But, if one is centering motifs, or using the repeat for a curtains, not only is there a lot of waste, but one needs a lot more fabric, which pushes up the cost of the project. While the US norm is 27″ repeats, we are seeing fabrics with twice that for repeats. As chair seats and back are not 54″ in depth, or in height, that means one needs a lot of fabric if one is matching all chair parts.<\/p>\n

Looking at the toucan\/parrot fabric, it does have a large scale- the toucan, with the leaves, is about 13″ tall. They appear larger due to the amount of visual space around them.\u00a0 But, the repeat is only 18″, much smaller than the norm. While this would make nice curtains, it would also be easy to use on chairs and cushions.<\/p>\n

I like this fabric as the background of leaves being neutral, lets the birds shine. One can enjoy the birds, without being over-whelmed by rest of the pattern.<\/p>\n

I also like the tiger fabric. This has a very tight, busy pattern. The scale is quite small- the largest tiger is about 4 1\/2″ long. The repeat is also small- the vertical is only 14 1\/2″, making this a pattern that would work anywhere! The tigers have a crisp look, and stand out from the whimsical leaves of the pattern. The dark background makes the whole thing pop!<\/p>\n

While this would be great for duvets and cushions, where one could see the tigers up close, I could see this as curtains, where one would get the effect of a jungle, with tigers everywhere!<\/p>\n

We were glad to see these two fabrics.
\nHere are a few of our other exotic animal fabrics.<\/p>\n

We only have a few pieces in the remnants with parrots on them.<\/p>\n

The line drawn toucan leopard jungle fabric is an interesting neutral,
\nthat blends well with many fabrics.<\/p>\n

The most whimsical of the cat fabrics\u00a0 is\u00a0 the
\nGeorgian Victorian exotic animal fabric.<\/p>\n

I like the idea of layering one or two fabrics and patterns. I can see the new tiger fabric with the neutral toucan\/leopard fabric that is line drawn. Or both the leopard fabrics together as pillows. Think about what you want to live with, but, don’t be afraid of a bit of experimenting!<\/p>\n
