We wanted a fresh look for this fabric, and we got it by using a blue and white toile on a yellow background.

VICTORIAN EQUESTRIAN FABRIC

The pattern has many vignettes- women riding side saddle, a horse jumping a fence, and men paused while on a ride, talking. Hounds wander hither and yon, and houses and cottages are shown in the background. The women galloping and the jumper add motion, the many details add interest, and the coloring gives this a nice lift.

We try to have a wide variety of equestrian fabric. We have the classic paisley jockey fabric, and the more modern horse hunt fabric with the retro feel. But, what we like about this is the coloring- it is just plain pretty! The blue and yellow work well together, and the yellow gives a fresh, new look to this fabric.

The other color we went with is more traditional. It is blue and white on tan.

BLUE TAN TOILE HORSE FABRIC

BLUE TAN VICTORIAN HORSE FABRIC

This is the only toile pattern we have that is reminiscent of a French toile pattern. The blue on this sets it apart from the other horse fabrics that we presently have. This more subdued version would work well layered with other fabrics.

This pattern is fairly sophisticated, and while checks scream country, I think some of the checks work well to set off the pattern. There is so much going on in this pattern, a check gives a nice balance, allowing one to concentrate on the pattern, giving a contrast to all of the details in the horse toile.

For the yellow the soft yellow gingham is a close match, and the royal blue looks good with it as well. For the tan version, either the royal blue, or the French blue work with it, as do the linen or khaki. For a larger check the Monr buffalo check in linen is a good choice.

For these, and all the horse patterns,
see the

Horse Fabric category.

__________________________________________

For many years we carried a horse toile fabric that had a distinct Victorian feel to the design.
