In Maine, the first signs of spring are normally seen in March. But, so far, not this year<\/p>\n

The mornings have been cold, usually 0 degrees F… And while there has not been a lot of new snow, there has not been much melting of it either!<\/p>\n

ROLL ON SPRING!<\/b><\/p>\n

There has been talk of a maple syrup shortage. Why? With no real warming of the days, the sap in the maples is not rising. The syrup run depends on warm days, and cool nights, to get the sap moving in the trees. This is not happening. And the fear is, that when it does warm up, the temps will go directly to warm, without the needed cooling at night. And, there is an added fear, that the season will just not be very long.<\/p>\n

For those who have a syrup addiction,
\nthere is a bit of a panic happening.<\/p>\n

Just so you know, not all syrups are the same. While most stores carry Grade A syrup, for most who love it, it is just not very good. Not enough flavor. Most of us like Amber, and many like Grade B for those who want real syrup flavor.<\/p>\n

These have both had more of the water cooked out of them, giving a deeper, richer flavor. So, if you love maple, search for those.<\/p>\n

As many know,
\nthere was a sudden death in the family, two weeks ago.
\nChristine had a scheduled business trip,
\nwhich could not be canceled.<\/p>\n

The time Taber and I had to be away overlapped with her trip.
\nShe arrived back before we did,
\nand valiantly started in on the orders.<\/p>\n

While it is still cold, it is definitely lighter later, and earlier! I was talking with a rep, who was buried in snow, and sent her some pictures.<\/p>\n

5 below this morning, but sunny! The length of the days gives such a happy feeling to life! So, looking forward to the spring, we will be listing some floral fabrics. We have five Indiennes, and one fabric that I especially like… it has birds, blackberries, and the feel of summer- nostalgia!
