and Oriental Fabrics Are Popular"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\">We are seeing a lot of interest in Asian fabrics,<br \/>\nin particular those from the Orient-<br \/>\nmainly those with<br \/>\nChinese and Japanese inspired patterns.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">But, what makes a pattern Oriental or Asian?<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 551px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.brickhousefabrics.com\/blog\/asian-and-oriental-fabrics-are-popular\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.brickhousefabrics.com\/mm5\/graphics\/00000001\/Blue%20dragon-aa9.jpg\" alt=\"ORIENTAL DRAGON FABRIC \" width=\"551\" height=\"441\" \/><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">ORIENTAL DRAGON FABRIC<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Both fabric designers and decorators use association<br \/>\nto give a sense, or idea, of a subject.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Put an Eiffel Tower on a fabric,<br \/>\nand the association is Paris or France.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Add a pagodas or a dragon to a fabric,<br \/>\nand the association tends to be the Orient,<br \/>\neven though both are present in many cultures.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">The point, from a decorator&#8217;s point of view, is to give the idea,<br \/>\nthe sense or feeling of something\u00a0 specific,<br \/>\nfor the total decorating scheme that they envision.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">They are not trying to give a correct, scholarly visual treatise on a subject.<br \/>\nThis can be very irritating for those that have more knowledge.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">And, I totally understand this irritation!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">I don&#8217;t know how many ocean fabrics we have had with gold fish in them.<br \/>\nThis drives me nuts!!!<br \/>\nGold fish are not salt water fish- they are a fresh water fish!!!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full style=\"text-align: center;\">But, take a look at the reef fabric- goldfish-<br \/>\nnext to seahorses!!!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">I was annoyed with Thomas Paul as well!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4983\" src=\"https:\/\/www.brickhousefabrics.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/squid-new-4444999.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"550\" height=\"440\" https:\/\/www.brickhousefabrics.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/squid-new-4444999-300x240.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 550px) 100vw, 550px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">One year a pattern came out, and it had a lot of shells, etc.<br \/>\nAnd one was a sea urchin- which was drawn upside down!<br \/>\nI didn&#8217;t buy it.<br \/>\nThe rep wondered why.<br \/>\nI said, the urchin is not correct!<br \/>\nHe could not believe this matters,<br \/>\nbut these things do.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">I am not alone in this.<br \/>\nI have one customer who will not buy anything with a crab on it-<br \/>\nshe says people think they look like bugs,<br \/>\nand won&#8217;t buy her products!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Here is an older pattern showing a fox hunt,<br \/>\nwith riders blowing horns.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-4984\" src=\"https:\/\/www.brickhousefabrics.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/horse-hunt-3zzz.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"549\" height=\"380\" \/>\nupholsters the tops of stools with horse patterns.<br \/>\nShe would not buy it.<br \/>\nThe horn was a French horn,<br \/>\nnot one that would have been used in\u00a0 England when on a hunt.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">From the fabric designer&#8217;s point of view,<br \/>\nthe horn was negligable&#8230;<br \/>\nfrom an expert&#8217;s point of view<br \/>\nit was an important detail.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Another case in point had to do with an older Waverly horse pattern-<br \/>\nPolo Promenade.<br \/>\n( I always thought this was an odd name for the pattern,<br \/>\nas it had nothing to do with polo! )<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_4997\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4997\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption \/>\nMost side saddles are built so that the riders legs are on the left , or near side, of the horse,<br \/>\nwith the skirt of the habit<br \/>\nfalling to the left as well.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">I was sent a vehement message on how wrong this pattern was.<br \/>\nBut, I had done research on this,<br \/>\nand while rare,<br \/>\nthere was the odd saddle,<br \/>\ncalled an off side side saddle,<br \/>\nwhere the\u00a0 legs of the rider, and the skirt of the riding habit,<br \/>\nwent to the right, or off side, of the horse.<br \/>\nAnd, there are people who now are making them,<br \/>\ndue to people with hip problems.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">So, we all have our foibles!<br \/>\nAnd, those with knowledge about a subject can be picky.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>______________________________________<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">And, what, might you ask is the point of this?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">This is mixing of elements for textile designs is nothing new.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Whether it was because early print makers and weavers were intrigued by<br \/>\nthings they had not seen before,<br \/>\nor because they were targeting a certain market,<br \/>\nfabric designs have always drawn on a wide variety of designs elements<br \/>\nto produce interesting patterns-<br \/>\nwhether correct or not.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Indienne fabric patterns are a good example of this.<br \/>\nThe Indienne Tree of Life patterns used both<br \/>\nEuropean flowers and patterns,<br \/>\nas well as Asian and Indian flowers and patterns.<br \/>\nThis blending of cultural things resulted in new and exciting designs.<\/p>\n<p center;\">______________________________________<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">When it comes to Asian and Oriental fabric patterns,<br \/>\nthere is a lot of cross over from the many different cultures that exist there.<br \/>\nThings we associate with a country or culture<br \/>\nmay have a basis in several cultures,<br \/>\neach with their own unique characteristics.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">For instance, dragons, Foo Dogs, and pagodas,<br \/>\nare common across several different cultures,<br \/>\nbut each of these have details that vary due to their origin.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">A fabric artist doing a rendering for a pattern<br \/>\nmight not respect these differences.<br \/>\nAnd, the decorator working on a project<br \/>\nmight not research the authenticity of the details of a pattern.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">One has to know about a subject<br \/>\nto be able to to understand the naunces of a pattern.<br \/>\nAnd, unless one has some familiarity with a subject,<br \/>\none really can&#8217;t judge how accurate a pattern is.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">That said, I don&#8217;t feel most fabric companies or home decorators<br \/>\nare concerned about pattern accuracy.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">So, every year fabrics come out,<br \/>\nand are used in home decorating,<br \/>\nwhether correct or not.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">It is a personal preference as to what one wishes to incorporate<br \/>\ninto one&#8217;s decorating scheme.<br \/>\nAnd it is up to each person to decide how accurate you want your rooms to be.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Here are some of the patterns that we have at the moment.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">For dragon patterns we have three-<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 551px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" \/>\nIt is also available in bold red orange.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 551px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"\" FABRIC<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">This is also available in a deep green,<br \/>\nand my favorite,<br \/>\na taupe brown.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">For me,<br \/>\nfabrics tell a story.<br \/>\nWhen I look at the taupe one,<br \/>\nI see fall fabric,<br \/>\nand I envision a wooden walk way,<br \/>\nalong the side of a traditional Japanese house.<br \/>\nIt is a chilly evening, just past dusk.<br \/>\nThe lanterns are lit, and swaying in the wind.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 551px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img \/>\nWhile these look like traditional lanterns,<br \/>\nthey are actually wind chimes.<br \/>\nIt is lovely!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 550px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img in Asian fabric patterns,<br \/>\nthey often have a European feel,<br \/>\nas many porcelains were being produced for Europeans.<br \/>\nOne of the fabric has a wide variety of<br \/>\nantique porcelains.<br \/>\nWe have it in a colored version,<br \/>\nand in an all blue version.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 550px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" pagoda.<br \/>\nWhile it may have an association with China or Japan,<br \/>\npagodas are important in many different cultures,<br \/>\nand prevalent in many different countries.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">The two fabrics we have at the moment are very different.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 550px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\"
