I love walking along the ocean.<\/p>\n

In the winter,
\nif it is above 20 degrees F, at the house,
\nand if the wind is not blowing,
\nI like to go for a beach walk.<\/p>\n

On Saturday, the 7th, I checked the tide-
\nit would be low in the early afternoon.
\nAs that is usually the warmest part of the day,
\nI headed down to Pemaquid beach around 1 pm.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

The sky was over-cast,
\nthis was a monochromatic scene.<\/p>\n

Whenever I walk the beach there seems to be a
\ntheme that emerges.
\nToday, for me,
\nthe walk was about patterns.<\/p>\n

Here the curve of the dunes,
\nbordered with a curve of snow,
\nechoed the curve of sand and water.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The tides had been super high and super low during the last week…
\nwith a lot of surge and wind.<\/p>\n

Walking toward the far end,
\nthere was a stretch of the beach covered in fairly large rocks,
\nthat had been moved up the sand by the tide.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Clumps of seaweed formed a pattern
\nin the lea of the rocks at the end of the beach.
\nThis was unusual-
\nusually it is piled in tall banks
\nat the other end of the beach.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

A pattern similar to that of the seaweed was a
\nnearby grouping of small rocks.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Walking back the other way,
\none sees how covered with rocks one part of the beach is.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

It was in contrast to the rest of the beach
\nhad been swept nearly clean.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

With normal tides there are the small vignettes of
\nflotsam and jetsam that I love to see.<\/p>\n

But, today, there were few.<\/p>\n

This was piece of seaweed stood out,
\nit was one of the few things with color that I saw!<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

There was an occassional shell-
\nhere two empty periwinkle shells sit amongst small rocks.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Another small piece of weed had been gently
\ndeposited on the sand.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Further along,
\nwhere there was more grit,
\nwas a still life of stones, seaweeds, and coralline.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

I love how the seeweeds frame the coralline!<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Though not colorful,
\neven small pieces of weed offer moments of grace
\nagainst the sand.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Some sand patterns are dramatic!<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u00a0After two and a half laps,
\nit was time to leave.<\/p>\n

As I take a last look
\na bit of sun illuminated the islands
\nat the entrance to the bay.<\/p>\n
