While it is nearly fall,
\nit really seems like Maine is experiencing a mix
\nof summer and fall,
\nan over-lapping of the two seasons.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Down on the coast,
\nthe sea is sparkling,
\nin a way it only does when the angle of the sun hits it
\nin the spring and the fall.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

And marsh sedges have turned to golden tones.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

But, as there has not been a frost,
\nsome summer flowers are still blooming.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

The late blooming Clematis virginiana
\nputs on a wonderful fall display.
\nUnlike Clematis ternifolia, it is not invasive.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Asters fill meadows and line the roads.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

And, monarch butterflies are still here,
\nfueling up
\nbefore their long migration south.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Even though trees are not yet that colorful,
\nthere is still plenty of color.<\/p>\n

Country lanes are filled with things to see!<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

The rugosa roses, which form stands,
\nare now filled with hips in all stages of ripeness.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

But, here and there a blooming rugosa rose
\nstill fills the air with its fragrance.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

The mountain ash make stunning displays
\nof color!<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Small rose hips and winter berry add small punctuations of color.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Not bright,
\nbut the silvery blue berries of northern bayberry
\nadd their own note to the late summer, early fall gathering.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Even looking up
\none sees signs of the end of the season.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Up to this point in the season
\nthe trees leaves have been dull, grey,
\nand many have fallen.<\/p>\n

Usually this is a sign of too little rain.
\nBut, this year there has been a lot of rain,
\nand even the swamp maples that color up early,
\nhave remained dull.<\/p>\n

Hopefully as we go through the next few weeks,
\nthe fall colors of New England will emerge!<\/p>\n

But, in the mean time
\nthere is plenty of other things of nature to enjoy!<\/p>\n
