Storms have come from all points of the compass, and have been followed by large upward swings in temperatures. For people who like winter, this is not what we like!<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Two weeks ago the cold finally seemed to settle in. It was below zero every morning, and barely moved into the single numbers. Though no snow fell, ice finally formed, &#8230; it was winter!<\/p>\n<p>Two Saturdays ago it was too cold for a beach walk. I decided to head to Rockland to get a sandwich for lunch at the Atlantic Bakery. Spot and I loaded up, and headed off.<\/p>\n<p class=\"center\">In back of Rockland, on Rt. 17, is Chickawaukee Lake.<br \/>\nThough the weather had been cold,<br \/>\nthe temperatures had fluctuated enough that<br \/>\nI did not expect what I saw!<br \/>\nThe whole lake was frozen!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.brickhousefabrics.com\/images\/stories\/Ice\/rockland-ice-700-6.jpg\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"caption\">CHICKAWAUKEE LAKE,<br \/>\nRockland, Maine<br \/>\nJanuary 26, 2013<\/p>\n<p class=\"center\">Out on the ice were a few ice fishing shacks, people skating, kids with hockey sticks, and the biggest surprise, ice sailing boats!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.brickhousefabrics.com\/images\/stories\/Ice\/rockland-ice-700-4.jpg\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"center\">While some were really moving across the ice,<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.brickhousefabrics.com\/images\/stories\/Ice\/rockland-ice-700.jpg\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"center\">others at the far end of the lake were learning the basics.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.brickhousefabrics.com\/images\/stories\/Ice\/rockland-ice-2-2-13-a.jpg\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"center\">After watching for a while we headed into town.<br \/>\nAfter a quick sandwich at the bakery,<br \/>\nSpot and I headed back home.<br \/>\nWe stopped to look at the lighthouse at the end of the breakwater.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.brickhousefabrics.com\/images\/stories\/Ice\/rockland-ice-700-5.jpg\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"caption\">ROCKLAND LIGHTHOUSE<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"center\">A lovely day on the coast of Maine!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The weather here in Maine has been up and down.
