Maine in August

Maine in August is magical. The weather is at its summer’s best, the sky is blue, and water is sparkling. This fleeting time is one to savor.

August races by so quickly! Each day is filled with activites. Each town has their “Days” to celebrate their town’s history, festivals abound- blueberry, lobster, pirates… everything is an occasion to enjoy. But, while a few of these can be fun, away from the madding crowd is for some of us, how we like to enjoy these last days of summer.

Swallows on wires are a sure sign of August!

In shallow lake waters the arrowhead blooms
creates a haze of purple blue.

Ponds are filled with waterlilies!

Queen Anne’s Lace fills
meadows.

In hedgerows and orchards apples ripen.

On the edges of fields
the baled hay looks like giant marshmallows.

And sunflowers are in their full glory!

Out on the water
there are stellar days to enjoy,

as the first fall leaves signal the end of the summer.
