Spring comes to the north!

Two steps forward, one step back, or is it three steps back? It is tough to tell!

During the last ten days we have had a full range or weather- from 60 degrees F with sun, to this morning’s 20 degrees with overcast skies. In between there has been snow, sleet, frost, hail, rain, and wind, with the occasional sighting of sun.

Yesterday a storm roared out of Canada. The wind was amazing! A long walk up in the meadows was an exhilarating experience. In between strong gusts of wind,  sun could be felt. The river water was tumbling down the rapids,  the ocean’s tide pulling hard, adding to the motion.

While we were supposed to get quite a lot of snow, the storm has gone south of us, leaving us with relatively calm weather today.

Despite the weather, it is really spring! While some of the early crocus have gone by, others are just at their peak.

When these were planted I put four different types of crocus in each hole.  Using a mix of species and hybrids, one can have quite a long bloom time.

Across the driveway, in gravel, Chionodoxa appear as tufts of leaves.

In one day they become full blown beauties.

As the spring progresses, we will keep posting pictures as flowers come along…

CLARENCE HOUSE FABRICS

Besides our weather, the last week was a really, really exciting one! We were able to get, with the help of our favorite rep ( You know who you are! ), a large amount of Clarence House Fabrics fabric! By large, I mean LARGE- one pallet weighed 1700 lbs! And there were four of them!

The fabric is safely inside the barn, unwrapped, and ready to be organized. It could not have happened without the help of Jeff and Wayne at Ames Supply in Wiscasset, who took delivery of it, and Kevin of Steele’s landscaping whose guys picked it up and helped get it unloaded, unwrapped, and safely inside.  Thankyou all!

There are all kinds of damasks, matelasses, velvets, and prints- many of  linen and silk. We are very lucky to have gotten these amazing fabrics, and look forward to getting them online. But, it will be a long, long process to do so.

We will continue to list all the fabrics that have come in over the last month, as well as some of the interesting plaids and stripes available as cut yardage, rotating through all categories.

So, watch the blog for updates!

TUESDAY- April 9, 2016

Well, I don’t care what anyone says… SPRING – the calendar may say it, crocuses say it, BUT, the weather does not! This morning it is 12 degrees F with wind… it is COLD! It might as well be February! Roll on, April!

WEDNESDAY- April 10, 2016

The weather continues to be cold. But, inside at Brick House Fabrics we have been enjoying some spring like fabric! Listed yesterday were five florals…

FLORAL FABRIC category!

Continuing on with other non-wintery feeling patterns, three tropical fabrics will be listed today.  Be prepared- one of them is the most intensely colored fabrics I have ever seen- no kidding!

THURSDAY- April 7, 2016

We woke to 40 degrees, F., and rain! A bit of icy snow lay on the ground… but, hopefully we have seen the end of the white stuff!
