Week of October 6, 2014

Unbelievable as it may seen, it is nearly Columbus Day weekend! And around here that means Pumpkinfest!

Yep, it has rolled around again. Pumpkins are everywhere… Pumpkin displays being set up, the newspaper is full of information on changes for this year, and people are gearing up for the 8th Annual Pumpkinfest!

The actual weigh off for pumpkins was yesterday…
I could not attend,
but, there was a new record set for the largest Maine pumpkin grown!

This big boy topped the scales at
1695.00 lb…
that is a lot of pumpkin!

Joseph Gaboury was the proud grower…
and does he look happy!

As usual, as things near the end of the week,
we will be out and about looking at the pumpkins!

The next big event is the Deployment,
Thursday evening.

So, if you are in the area, drop by.
And if not, watch the blog for all of the pictures of Pumpkinfest, 2014…
and hope for great weather this weekend!

The pictures above have been used with the permission of
Pumpkinfest- thankyou!

This week there is a line up along the counter where I work. I am trying to group fabrics by genre when I list, and this week, it is paisley fabrics up first! I just listed an apple green and off white woven paisley, that we already stock in beige and a grey green. Next up is a domino paisley pattern. We have not had a domino in quite a while! A domino is a black and white pattern, and this one is rather unique! It is a reverse domino, white on black, rather than the more normal black on white. Hopefully the sun will be out tomorrow, and it can get photographed!

The wind has been blowing hard all day, but the temperature is rather mild! It was over 60 early this morning. The sky has been mostly dark, as clouds have moved through. And, though not raining, the leaves have been tumbling off of the trees. We are surrounded by 50′ ash trees that tower over oaks and maples. The ashes are the last trees to leaf out, in June, just before the summer solstice, and the first to drop in the fall, as the days shorten.

Though sad to see the days get darker earlier, I am glad of a bit more light in the house!
