Thirty years ago the English country look meant one thing: chintzes and florals with some arabesques thrown in. Deep brown wood was used, polished to perfection, and every man had a library. Today that has changed. While an English country home might have the look of 30 years ago, it might not- English country decorating is very diverse!
But, for now we are showcasing two English styles: the manor house style and the country cottage look. The English cottage look started taking over when the English cottage garden took off as a look for gardeners. No longer prim, with borders trimmed, and every flower in its place, the cottage garden was allowed to riot- intermingling plants for a less formal look.
The English cottage look is somewhat similar- cozy shabby chic would describe it!
